Denials amplify Synergy whispers
A recent Economic Regulation Authority report would bolster the government’s case for the sale of Synergy –if it were to make one.
After completing his university degree at the Australian National University, Ben Morton returned to his hometown of NSW Central Coast and stood for election as the Liberal Party Candidate for Wyong. He was elected as Federal Liberal Member for Tangney in Western Australia from 2016 to 2022. Mr Morton became Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Cabinet in May 2019, and was appointed Assistant Minister to the Minister for Public Service and Assistant Minister for Electoral Matters in December 2020. In October 2021, following a cabinet reshuffle, Mr Morton was appointed Special Minister of State, Minister for the Public Service, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet. He relinquished all portfolios following the Liberal Party's defeat at the 2022 federal election.
In February 2008, on a holiday to Western Australia, Mr Morton proposed to his wife as the sun was setting over the water at Scarborough Beach. Unknown to him at the time, he would return to WA later that year to become state director of the Western Australian Liberal Party until 2015. Under his leadership, the WA Liberal party won every election and increased the number of seats held substantially.
Prior to being elected, Mr Morton worked in the private sector as a senior manager for one of Australia’s largest home builders, BGC.
