Ashley Crisp was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1984. From 1987 to 1992, he was the Insurance partner at a medium size Perth law firm. In April 1992, Mr Crisp founded CCS Insurance Law to focus on his area of interest – insurance law advice, dispute resolution and litigation. In 2017, CCS Insurance Law merged to become part of national firm Mills Oakley. Mr Crisp was a partner in the insurance law section of Kott Gunning from 2010 until it ceased operations in December 2021.
Mr Crisp’s experience in insurance law spans over 30 years and includes employers indemnity and workers compensation, public and product liability, professional indemnity, property, construction, engineering, contract works and treatment liability. He worked with numerous national and international insurers, self insurers, brokers and their clients, and has provided advice not only in relation to claims and litigation but also in relation to policy development, WA workers compensation scheme issues, underwriting, state and national projects, the proposal of legislative change. He acted for clients in the construction, mining, oil and gas, retail, industrial, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, professional services, state government and local government sectors.
In 2009, Mr Crisp worked on WorkCover WA’s legislative review of the WA Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management Act which resulted in amendments to WA’s workers compensation law which came into effect in late 2011. He regularly appears at WorkCover WA and the District Court, and has appeared as Counsel in the following courts and tribunals: Supreme Court of Western Australia; District Court of Western Australia; Workers’ Compensation Board; Compensation Magistrates Court; Conciliation and Review Directorate; Dispute Resolution Directorate; Commissioners Chambers; and Conciliation and Arbitration Service – WorkCover WA.
