Anthony Albanese is an Australian politician, leader of the Australian Labor Party since 2019, and Member of Parliament for Grayndler since 1996. In May 2022, Mr Albanese led his party to victory against Scott Morrison's Liberal-National Coalition to become only the fourth Labor leader to win from Opposition since the Second World War. He is the 31st Prime Minister of Australia, and the first Italian-Australian Prime Minister in the country's history.
Mr Albanese became the 21st leader of the Australian Labor Party, and Leader of the Opposition, as he took over from Bill Shorten who stepped down at the end of the 2019 election. He was the deputy prime minister of Australia and deputy leader of the Labor Party in 2013, and a cabinet minister in the Rudd and Gillard Governments between 2007 and 2013. In October 2013, he became the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure & Transport and the Shadow Minister for Tourism in Bill Shorten's Shadow Cabinet. He took on the additional responsibility of Shadow Minister for Cities in September 2014.
Prior to politics, and after completing his economics degree, Mr Albanese took on a role as research officer to then-Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services, Tom Uren, who would become a mentor to him.
