Dr Anne (Azza) Aly was appointed the second Edith Cowan University Professorial Research Fellow in January 2016.
Dr Aly is also a board member for the Council of Australian Arab Relations, the author of four books on violent extremism, and has published more than 40 journal articles.
Dr Aly is the first female federal parliamentarian of Muslim faith, becoming a Labor Party member representing the electorate of Cowan in Western Australia in 2016. Following the ALP's victory at the 2022 federal election, Dr Aly became the Minister for Early Childhood Education and Youth under the Albanese government.
