Migration cap to be lifted to 195,000
The permanent migration cap will be lifted this financial year to help relieve labour shortages across the country.
Andrew Giles is an Australian politician and a Labor Party member, representing the Division of Scullin in 2013.
Mr Giles joined the Australian Labor Party when he was 18. He was Shadow Assistant Minister for Schools (2016–2019), Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Shadow Minister for Cities and Urban Infrastructure (2019-2022). Following the Labor Party's victory at the 2022 federal election, Mr Giles became the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs under the Albanese government.
Prior to entering parliament, Mr Giles was a principal lawyer at Slater and Gordon in Melbourne, practising in Employment Law.
