Professor Andrew Deeks is an Australian academic administrator. He became a Winthrop professor in Civil and Resources Engineering in 2004.
Prof Deeks was head of the school of Civil and Resource Engineering at the University of Western Australia and Pro-Vice Chancellor in Science at Durham University, the first Australian and second non-Irish person to become president of University College in Dublin. He became vice-chancellor of Murdoch University in April 2022. In November 2022, Prof Deeks became the first Australian to be appointed president of the International Association of Universities in its 72-year history. The appointment is a 4-year term.
Prof Deeks holds a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, a Master in Engineering Science and a PhD - all from the University of Western Australia. His research was focus on structural dynamics, mechanics and dynamic soil structure, with more than 150 published papers to his name.
