Andrea Gleason
Andrea Gleason was Director of the Western Australia State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) from April 2015 to December 2018. In this role, she was responsible for managing DFAT’s engagement with its diverse local stakeholders, including the State Government and Western Australia’s business and academic communities.

Ms Gleason is a career public servant with DFAT, joining in 1992. Much of her work has focused on bilateral, regional and multilateral trade negotiations and trade policy issues (including APEC, the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the World Trade Organization). Overseas, Andrea has served as Counsellor (Trade) in Washington DC (2009-2012) and Second Secretary in Stockholm (1997-2000).

In Canberra, her assignments have included Director, APEC Trade and Investment Section (2013) and Director, Trade Policy Section (2007-2009). In 2014-2015, she was a research fellow and program associate at the Perth USAsia Centre, an international policy think tank, whilst on leave without pay from the Department.

Ms Gleason holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Trade from the Australian National University. She is married and has two daughters.
