Viterra began as a Canadian grain handling business with its historic roots in grain-handling cooperatives.
In 2009, Viterra bought South Australia-based ABB Grain. In 2012, global commodity trader Glencore acquired Viterra and changed its name to Glencore Agriculture. In 2020, Glencore Agriculture rebranded to Viterra.
Viterra was one of the largest buyers of Australian commodities nationally.
In July 2025, Viterra merged with fellow multinational Bunge, with the combined entity trading under the Bunge name.
