Burrup Holdings (now Yara Pilbara Holdings - see separate BNiQ entry) was started by Pankaj Oswal in 2001. It was behind the $700m Burrup Fertiliser plant built to make 850,000 tonnes of liquid ammonia per annum since 2006. . In 2012, Norwegian giant Yara International acquired 16% ownership. The Oswals had a falling out with several partners, including Yara which ended up in long running litigation. Yara's share in the company has since risen to 51% while Apache Corp holds the balance. The Burrup Fertilisers Pty Ltd has been renamed Yara Pilbara Fertilisers Pty Ltd, marking a more active role for Yara in the region.
