Georgiou wins $45m roadworks contract

Osborne Park-based Georgiou Group has picked up work from Queensland’s transport department involving interchange upgrades on the 150-kilometre Pacific Motorway.

The package of works, worth $45 million, is for upgrades to Exit 41, the Yatala South Interchange, located in the northern Gold Coast area.

It forms part of the Queensland government's Pacific Motorway (M1) project, which also involves upgrades to the Pimpana Interchange (Exit 49).

Georgiou has been tasked with building new signalised intersections and an eastbound bridge on Computer Road, which is connected to the motorway.

The contractor will also reconstruct roundabouts and build a new pedestrian bridge.

Executive general manager of Georgiou's east coast business, Gary Georgiou, said it was the company's first motorway project in the region.

“This project is a great win for the Queensland business as it not only enables us to continue building on our relationship with repeat client Department of Transport and Main Roads, but it allows us to build on our expertise in the construction of large infrastructure projects,” he said.

“Road and bridge construction are in our DNA, having delivered similar projects across Australia over the past 40 years.

“As a vital piece of the Queensland infrastructure network, we look forward to bringing our expertise to successfully deliver this project on time and budget.”

The Pacific Motorway starts in Brisbane and ends in Brunswick Heads, in NSW.

The overall project is jointly funded by the Queensland and federal governments, each contributing $96.3 million.
